WWII US ARMY AIR CORPS INSIGNIA
At the beginning of the war the United States had approximately 800 aircraft
manned by 2,000 pilots.
By the end of the war the numbers had increased to 2,400,000 personnel and approximately
80,000 aircraft broken into 243 combat groups. As the number of divisions and groups
incremented, it was necessary to create a wide array of insignia.
This page is dedicated to the study of the insignia of the Army Air Corps.
The following is a set of AAF collar insignia. Consisting of two wings with a propellor in
the center. Clutch back construction. Unmarked.
The following item is an unusual ribbon which may have been produced in very
limited numbers. A rectangular piece of metal is covered with cloth bearing the AAF
emblem. Pin back construction. This item was worn in similar fashion as a ribbon.
