WWII US ARMY AIR FORCE CIB PATCHES
The China-Burma-India (CIB) units is one of the eicons of WWII. This theatre was home
to the famous group of fighter pilots known as the flying tigers. The patch was worn on
the upper sleeves of the uniform. Two different styles of patches are illustrated here.
The first set was sawn to the tropical uniform. The set displayed here came all from one
soldier who served in this theatre.
The front and back of this patch can be seen in the following pictures. Notice the rough
wooven look of the back of the first patch vs the clean look of the back of the second patch.
The first picture shows the soldier wearing the tropical style uniform.
The second style of patch was attached to the uniform via snaps. This patch was
usually worn with the dress uniform. The soldier shown here is wearing the
traditional Army dress uniform.
Two symbols representing a sun and a star are embroided on the patch. The two pictures
below provide a closer look at the design.
