Korean war US Army Overseas Hat -

The overseas hat was issued to Army, Air Force and Marine Corps troops during the korean war. Also known as the envelope hat due to its construction being similar to that of an envelope.

The sample shown here is of wool construction. However, hats were also available in cotton khaki color for wear during the summer. The hats used by the Marine Corps were manufactured of a heavy green wool.

These hats came with manufacturer tags attached to the inside. However, many of the tags are lost through normal wear. The item featured here retains the original tag which reads:

The edge of the hat comes with piping. Different colors were employed to denote the work the soldier performed in the service. For example, red piping indicated artillery. Piping came in solid colors of multi-color designs.
