Mountain warfare refers to warfare in the mountains or similarly rough terrain. This type of warfare
is also called Alpine warfare, named after the Alps mountains. Mountain warfare is one of the most
dangerous types of combat as it involves surviving not only combat with the enemy but also the extreme weather and dangerous terrain.
The 10th Mountain Division is a light infantry division of the United States Army based at Fort Drum, New York. It is a subordinate unit of the XVIII Airborne Corps and the only division-sized element of the US Army to specialize in fighting under harsh terrain and weather conditions. The division retains the "mountain" designation for historical purposes but is actually organized as a light infantry division.
Activated in 1943, the 10th Mountain Division was the last among currently active divisions to enter
combat during World War II. the 10th Mountain Division entered combat on January 8, 1945.

The item featured here is a set of US Army skis. As used by the Mountain troops during the Korean war.
All wood construction. Painted white. Heavy duty leather straps with metal clips were employed to
secure the foot to the ski. Winter boots known as
Mickey Mouse boots were employed with the
skis.
The pair shown here is mismatched. The markings on one ski do not match the markings on the other.
One of the skis is dated 1951 and has the following markings:
