US Civil War Army Veteran's Sword -
Civil War Veteran organizations were created shortly after the end of the war as a means to provide
a place where ex-soldiers could gather for social events. In addition, these organizations would
provide assistance finding huosing, employment and food. An early form of social organizations.
In keeping up with military tradition, its members would be issued swords. This was primarily a
symbol of status and a sign of belonging.
The swords were of much lighter duty construction than any of their combat counterparts.

Complete with brass fittings. Metal wire wrapping would have covered the handle. However, this part is missing and leaves
the wooden handle exposed.
A half clam shell is attached to the handle. It is heavily adorned with the image of an eagle, wreaths and flags.
The scabbard is constructed of metal. The upper section has a metal strap with a leaf design. a ring is attached to
each side of the strap. The tip has a cover which is attched via the use of two screws. one to each side, It also
displays a flower and leaves.
