Vietnam War US Jungle Boots - 1968
The concept of jungle boots was started during World War Two. The first set of modern
boots was used for a short time during the Korean war. It is from this model that
the boots worn during the Vietnam war emerged.
The design consists of a black leather base with canvis sides. The shoelace
gromets are inserted into leather strips that match in color with the base.
Black shoe laces are used to tie the boots.
The early boots did not have a spike protective sole. This became a problem as
the enemy began employing more and more boobie traps. Of special concern to
GI's were the holes lined with sharp, hardened bamboo sticks standing vertically
at the bottom. Later in the war a sheet of metal was added to the sole to
provide protection to the foot.
The inside of the tonge of the boot is stamped with black ink with the following
information:
10 R 3 68
Spike
