ARVN Master Paratrooper Patch - Vietnam War -
The Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) was the military of South Vietnam. They were allies with the United
States during the conflict. It is estimated that the ARVN received 1,170,000 casualties during the course of the War.
Just after the end of the Vietnam War, when Saigon fell to the communist forces of the North, the ARVN was
dissolved. some members fled the country to the United States or elsewhere, hundreds of thousands of
former ARVN soldiers were sent to reeducation camps by the newly-unified Vietnamese communist government.
The paratroopers of South Vietnam were trained by US troops. The insignia worn by the paratroopers was based
on the ones employed by their US counterparts.
To be eligible for the Senior Parachutist Badge, an individual must have been rated excellent in character and
efficiency and have met the following requirements:
- Participated in a minimum of 30 jumps including fifteen jumps with combat equipment.
- Either graduated from the Jumpmaster Course of the Airborne Department of the Infantry School or the
Jumpmaster School of a separate airborne battalion or larger airborne unit,
- Have served on jump status with an airborne unit or other organizations authorized parachutists for a
total of at least 24 months.
