US Army M-1963 Field Jacket -
The Vietnam war saw the begining of a new era in the development of the combat uniform. Lighter materials, which were tear resistant and provided better ventilation were employed.





The M-1963 field jacket was developed and designed specifically for the Vietnam war. Many of its features are based on the WWII M-1943 Model.

Of four pocket construction. The jacket uses a brass zipper and green plastic buttons to secure it closed. The pockets have flaps to ensure any contents placed in them do not fall off. The top pockets are inordinantly large. Two drawstrings are built into the jacket. one is at the waist level. The other is at the bottom of the jacket.

This particular example does not have any patches.

The jacket retains all the original tags. They are white with black letters. The tag in the neck area contains the following information:

Regular small
Chest: From 33 to 37 inches
Height: From 67 to 71 inches

The bottom inside section has two additional tags with the following information:

coat man's cotton wind resistant, sateen, 9 oz, WRT OG-107
1. Wear as the outer garment in cold-wet climate and as the intermediate garment
in cold-dry climates.
2. Wear alone in mild weather.
3. For cold weather, button in liner, coat, man's field M-1951
4. Tighten waist and skirt drawstrings and sleeve closures for warmth - loosen
to ventilate. Avoid over heating to prevent chiling after exercise.
5. Button on hood for face and head protection.
6. Brush snow and frost from garments before entering heated shelters.
7. Dry garments separatelly.
8. Do not dry to close to the heat.
9. Water repellent may be restored by treatment.
10. Lubricate slide fastener with graphite or candle wax.
