USMC ERDL Camouflaged Tunic - Vietnam War -
This is a camouflaged tunic as used by the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Of
poplin construction with the four pocket design. Two top pockets are
slanted. This design allowed the soldiers to gain easier access to the contents
of the pockets when carrying a full combat load gear. Flaps were provided
to close the pockets shut.
With Hidden green plastic buttons. Which would remain out of view when the
tunic was closed. This feature decreased the number of snags that could occur
when the soldiers were runing in th jungle.
Long sleeves. The USMC logo is black ink-stamped in one of the pockets.
Two white tags were affixed to every uniform. The type of camouflage used was
of new design. known as the ERDL pattern. The material was rip resistant and
afforded good ventilation.
The uniform retains the original white cotton tags. One located near the
collar. The other behind one of the lower pockets.
The tags contain information of value for the collector.
Data found there includes: Manufacturing date, manufacturer's name, material of
construction, color, etc. It was not uncommon for the tags to fall off from
normal wear.
