US Army Camouflaged Tunic - Vietnam War -
This is a US Army camouflaged tunic as used during the Vietnam war. Of rip-stop construction. Four pocket design with hidden green plastic buttons. The upper pockets were slanted. This design facilitated access to the contents of the pockets in situations where the soldier was wearing the full combat load gear.

Long sleeves. The tunic has a very interesting theater made patch on one of the sleeves. It was a common practice for the soldiers to hire local seamstresses to create hand-made patches to be worn on the official uniform. Patches like the one shown here were not officially sanctioned by the US Army.

The style of camoufalge was a new pattern. Known as ERDL type. It bears similarities to the pattern used during WWII. The ERDL camouflage was very well suited for the jungle conditions. It was light and tear resistant. It provided good ventilation. It was comfortable to wear.
