WWII US Army Officer's Sword -
A sword is a long, edged piece of metal, used in many civilizations throughout the world, primarily as a cutting or thrusting weapon and occasionally for clubbing.

As technology advances, the place for the sword as a weapon has diminished. Its role now is that of a show of status and pride. Perhaps the last modern American sword design for combat was the Patton saber .

The item featured here is a US Army Officer's sword. As issued during WWII.

The design of the US Army officer's sword from WWII consists of a basket type handguard with 4 separate metal, swirled lines. The handle is simulated wood. The pommel is of silver colored metal.

The blade is single edge. It has multiple ornamental etchings all along the side. In some cases the name of the soldier is etched along the blade. Part of the ornamentation includes the breast plate with two flags extending from it. One flag has the "US" letters on it. The American eagle is also portrayed standing atop a ribbon that reads "E Pluribus Unum".

The scabbard is of silver color. Smooth design. It has two hanger rings near the throat area.
