The inside flap is stamped with the name of the manufacturer "Rock Island Arsenal" and the date of production 1918.
Even though this roll was produced for use during WWI, it was re-issued for use during WWII. This was a common
practice among all American field gear.
This technique allowed equipment to get to the battle field faster and saved money because the items were already
manufactured.
The inside of the roll had multiple pockets. Each had a unique number aplied with a black ink stamp. A master list
was created to assign a unique number to each spare part. The GI could memorize the location. This made parts easier
to find regardless of which unit owned the spare parts roll.
