WWII US Army Paratrooper canteen -
The United States armed forces started the development of airborne troops in 1941. This new way of fighting brought about challenges to meet the needs of the soldiers under airborne conditions. Uniforms and equipment had to be created to meet the needs of the paratrooper.

The regular canteen was not changed for the paratroopers. However, the canvis carrier had to be modified to better whitstand the rigors of jumping off aircrafts.

The item featured on this page is a US paratrooper canteen. Complete with the canvis carrier. The canteen has an early metal cap with a chain that anchored it. aluminum body. The carrier is of Khaki color. The back has been reinforced with extra canvis straps. Two snaps secure the container in the closed position. A wire hook allows the canteen to be attached to the utility belt or backpack.
