WWII US Marine Corps Wool Blanket -
This is a US Marine corps field wool blanket. Of Olive Drab color. The same design was employed by other branches of the service. The blanket was so successful that it was employed long after the war ended. The edges were ususally capped with a different color. The USMC and Navy blankets had a black stripe run the width of the blanket. The Army did not apply this marking.

The example shown here has the letters USMC stamped with black ink. Some other blankets may have displayed the letters US. Others were not marked at all. Another interesting thing about this blanket is that the owner applied his name using white paint. This was a common characteristic of USMC gear.

Some blankets had a small white tag sewn to one end.
