WWII USMC Camouflage M-1 Helmet Cover -
The use of camouflage clothing was introduced during WWII. The US Marine Corps (USMC) was
the branch that employed the largest number of
camouflage uniforms
and
backpacks .
Since they were deployed in the Pacific theater they saw the need to better blend with their
surroundings. Camouflaged clothing is very effective at breaking up their silhoute against the
junglebackground.
This is a USMC camouflaged helmet cover. This is one of the first patterns
employed in the US armed forces. Double-sided with a green pattern on one side
and a brown pattern on the other.
The cover was placed over the M-1 helmet shell.
The liner was then put into the shell, securing the camo cover in place. Another camouflaged accessory
that could be worn with the helmet was the
mosquito netting.
