WWII BRITISH PILOT SUMMER FLYING HELMET -
This is an example of the flying helmet used by the RAF during summer months in WWII or in tropical
weather. The helmet was constructed from tan fabric with a beige satin and chamois liner. All
the straps were manufactured from brown leather. The rubber ear cups were black and housed
the communications equipment. The straps were equipped with special fasteners and snaps to allow
for the routing of the communication's wiring.
The wiring was cloth insulated. The bottom picture shows a clear depiction of how the wiring was
routed.
