WWII GERMAN BUCKLE - SA (4) The Sturmabteilung, abbreviated SA, (German for "Assault detachment" or "Assault section", functioned as a paramilitary organization of the NSDAP – the German Nazi party. They played a key role in Adolf Hitler's rise to power in the 1930s. Later the organization split. one part remained the SA while the other became the SS.

This is a WWII German buckle. As used by the SA, a political organization. Of aluminum construction. The design consisted of a plain surface with two ropes, one inside the other, forming a circle. The SA eagle is placed in the center of the innermost circle. The eagle has its wings fully extended. Its head is facing to the right. It is clutching a wreath with a swastika in the center.

The space formed between the two ropes is divided in half. The upper section contains a ribbed design. The bottom section has a highly detailed wreath.

The belt buckles of the Third Reich came in a variety of designs. There were over 100 different types developed. Even the non-military belt buckles often displayed the swastika as a means to show support of the Nazi party.

The high quality and intricate designs have made the German belt buckles of World War Two a desirable military collectible.

The back section has a c"Cave" style catch. This type was commonly employed with the SA buckles. Two welding spots denote the area where the front of the buckle was secured to the main body. The prongs are secured to a round structure that swivels close to 180 dregrees. This movement makes it possible for the buckle to be attached to the leather belt.
