German 2nd Model Luftwaffe Dagger -
The second pattern Luftwaffe dagger was introduced in 1937. Various officer ranks wore the dagger and there was no
visible difference between them.
The biggest changes between the first model and the second model were the pommel and the hand guard. A detailed account
of the construction of the dagger follows:
The blade was of type stiletto with the main features being a double edge and a flat plain in its center. The brand of
the manufacturer would normally be placed on the blade. The example shown in this page has a manufacturer's marking.
The grip was manufactured from corinthian leather and consisted of a grooved spiral design. A wire composed of three
strands was placed in the groove. The wire was aluminum and silver in appearance. The grip was only available in
blue color.

The handguard conisted of a drooping three tear design. Silver metal construction. A swirl
type swastika is located in the center of the handguard. A small piece of leather is
located at the base of the blade. This provided padding so when the dagger is inside the
sheath there is no metal to metal contact.
The scabbars is covered in dark blue corinthian leather to match the handle. It has three
silver metal fittings which are; a throeat piece, a chain strap and the tip cover.
The hanger chain was permanently attached to the scabbard. The dagger featrured here has
only a small section of the chain left.

The pommel consists of a circle with the swirl type swastika located in the center of
both sides. The swastika was guilded from factory. The sample shown here has no
guilding left. This was a common occurrance caused by the normal wear of the dagger.
The blade bears the manufacturer's marking. It is placed near the base of the blade.
It reads "Emil Voos" and just below that has the name of the city "Solingen".
