WWII GERMAN HAT - FIRE POLICE -
Like many other organizations under the Third Reich, the fire/police departments were of
a para-military nature. They had to show their association to the Nazi party. One way
to do this, at this symbolically, is to place the swastika in the uniform. In this case the
hat.
This is a German WWII fire police hat.
Of dark blue Wool construction with the police eagle insignia affixed to the front.
Red piping is placed around the rim of the hat. A black leather visor with a matching
chin strap secured to the side of the hat..
This is a close up of the fire police eagle. Beautiful quality. Still retains some of the
original frosting finish. All metal construction. Two prongs hold it affixed to the hat. The
design consisted of a wreath enclosing a thin neck eagle. The face of the eagle is pointing
to the right. The wings are fully spread. The feet are clutching a swastika.
The national button is placed above the eagle. This item is also of metal construction. It has a
red dot in the center.
This page is a recognition and identification guide for WWII German hats. Multiple
detailed photos of a specific sample are provided. Descriptions point out clearly defined points
that should be noted.
One of the most commonly asked questions is "How much is my WWII German hat worth?". A price

The inside of the hat has a leather liner. It is stamped with the manufacturer's name.
A paper insert has the name of the owner "Peter Dieckmann" and date "6.12.1905"
handwritten in black ink.
The sweatband is made of brown leather. It is sewn to the hat on one end and secured
shut on the other via the use of a bronze rivet.
The inner side of the bill is of brown color. As it is represented in the photo,
a checkered pattern is placed on the inside of the bill of the hat. This was standard in many of
the World War Two hats. The bill is sewn tightly to the cap. This attachment
is often damaged because people grab the hat from the bill. Forcing it to come apart from the
body of the hat.
This hat is currently being reproduced.
It is becoming more difficult to be able to tell the fake ones from the real ones because the quality
of the reproductions is improving. The collector must become familiarized with the construction style
and materials employed in the manufacturing of this hat. Attention to the details is critical in
order to be able to determine the authenticity of the headgear.
