German Hitler Youth Knife -
The Hitler Youth Knife (German: Hitler-Jugend-Fahrtenmesser) was a knife sold to and carried by boys of the paramilitary
youth organization of the Nazi Party that existed from 1922 to 1945. The Hitler Youth wore knives as part of their
uniform, which was very similar to those worn by the Sturmabteilung or SA. The knife was also given to those who
performed exceptionally well in minor exams. This part of the website provides basic identification and a price guide
for Hitler Youth knives.
The knife covered in this section is not as common as the standard version. It is harder to
locate.

The base of the blade bears the manufacturer's logo. The design consisted of the figure
of a tree without leaves. To the right of the tree are the names of the manufacturer,
"H. Boker & Co" and the city where the knife was produced "Solingen".
One side of the scabbard is also stamped with the same information.
Boker was a well known maker of knives. They produced several of the blades for the SS.

One of the most common questions asked is "How much is my item worth?" To better address
this question, a price guide is provided. The guide covers the value of the Hitler Youth
knife over a period of several years. And gives the reader a very good feel for its
worth in the collector's market.
The design of the knife consists of a plastic/rubber handle. Most of its surface reflects
a checkered pattern. A smooth surface is found near the base and pommel. Black in color.
One side of the handle has a small circle inserted at about the center point. There is
a swastika inside the circle.
There is not much of a handguard. The blade is of single edge construction. As discussed
earlier the markings are placed at the base
The scabbard is made of brown leather. It has a strap with a brown painted snap to
secure the knife in place when it is being carried. Heavy white stitching is applied
to the sheath itself. A total of six rivets reinforce the construction. Most of the
rivets are applied where the edge of the knife rests.
The upper section of the scabbard has two slits. Their purpose is to permit a belt
to go through the opeinings so the knife can be carried on the persons waist area.
The pommel is capped with a low profile, silver colored hexagonal nut. This piece keeps
the blade and handle together.
