WWII German Stickpin - Infantry Assault On Bronze -
This is a German WWII stick pin. These items were issued to military, civilian and political individuals for various reasons. In the case of military personnel, a stickpin was given along with a full size award. The soldier could wear the stick pin instead of having to sport the full size badge.
|
The infantry assault badge was designed by C.E. Juncker of Berlin with direction provided by
the OKH. The badge was instituted on December 20th 1939 by Generaloberst Von Braunchitsch. It
awarded to infantry men.
The design consisted of an oval wreath of oak leaves with an eagle placed in the top portion.
The eagle has its wings retracted, the head is facing to the right and it is clutching a
swastika. Part of the eagle extended beyond the confines of the wreath.
A k98 rifle
with a
fixed bayonet
crosses the wreath at an angle where the muzzle points to the left.
The award was widely ditributed and manufactured by a large number of companies.
|
The award came in two classes; silver and bronze.
The criteria for receiving the silver award was defined as follows:
This stick pin was issued to Army soldiers who met the qualifications for the Bronze class. The stickpin was issued in conjunction with a
full size badge.
An award document was also provided to the recipient.

Collecting Third Reich Stickpins
Collecting Third Reich memorabilia is a field that has been growing since the days the GI's rummaged around Europe
bringing back military souvenirs. German soldiers wore many of their awards on their uniforms when they went to
battle. Once the soldier was killed or captured, the American soldiers would take the awards as war trophies.
Eventually all these pieces came back to the United States where military history enthusiasts began to collect them.
