WWII GERMAN FLAG - NAVY (KRIEGSMARINE) - This is German Navy battle flag. As issued during World War Two. Of cotton construction. The design consists of a red body. A black Maltese cross is stenciled to the left corner of the flag. A cross pattern extends from the bottom to the top and from left to right centered with the flag. The intersection of the cross has a large circle with a swastika in the center.

Nicely marked with black ink stamps along the white edge. One end has a heavy duty white cotton rope used to secure the flag to a mast in order to fly it.

The item featured here is in near mint condition. Information discussed on this page allows the collector to identify German WWII flags and determine their value.

The side of the flag is reinforced with five evenly separated strands of extra stitching. This was done to eliminate as much fraying as possible when flying the flag.

The Navy flags were usually marked along the edge of the white cotton material. Just as it is shown in the pictures below. The markings were normally black ink stamped. The information provided in the stamping included things such as the size of the flag, the date of manufacture, the name of the manufacturer, the branch of the service using the flag, etc.

Not all flags were marked with the same information. It is possible to find flags that contain less data or that are not marked at all.

The words stamped on this flag are the name of the manufacturer "Lorenz Summa Sohne" and the name of the town where the flag was produced "Oberkotzau".

The size of the flag was often written on the side as well.
