This is a Japanese Imperial Army sun helmet. Hard shell constructed of cardboard and enclosed in a brown canvas cover. Displaying a yellow, 5 point star in the front.

This sample is very nicely marked with white paint. This was a common way in which to mark field equipment.

The suspension system consists of a string structure. A cloth chin strap wasprovided.

There are replicas of this helmet being made today for the movie industry.  These reproductions are quite good.
