THE MEDALS AND AWARDS OF IMPERIAL JAPAN -

The Japanese armed forces had been influenced by the British armed forces for quite a few years before the start of World War Two. In later years the Japanese developed their own style.

This section is dedicated to the medals and awards of the Japanese armed forces. A wide variety of photos are shown as a means to help the identification and value of these military collectibles.

JAPANESE WWII PINS AND PATCHES

The following is a group of items employed by the Japanese during WWII. Some of the items shown herer are civilian while others are military. Patches are also included as part of the group.




Japanese WWII civilian pin to commemorate the military. - Of metal construction. Gold color with a red ribbon attached to the back.


Japanese WWII civilian pin with Navy mottif. With a light blue ribbon that has a metal Chrysanthemum at the center.


Japanese valor award. This is a civilian badge issued during WWII. Of metal construction. Very simple design with characters at top, bottom and in a straight line at center.


Japanese WWII pin in the shape of a Chrysanthemum flower. The center is decorated with petals on each side. This is a civilian pin.




This is a Japanese WWII pilot's cloth wings. Of cotton construction. The design consists of a yellow wreath with a star in the center. Branches extend to the left and right of the center.


Japanese WWII collar rank. Of wool construction with two red "V" pattern attachments. This is a rank insignia.


Japanese WWII Shooting proficiency patch. Of cotton construction. Consisting of a an orange wreath with two black rifles crossed.


WWII Japanese collar insignia. Of cotton construction. Red background with green border. A yellow line crossed the rank at the center. A white star is found in the middle.




This is a Japanese WWII collar insignia. Of rectangular shape. The borders are green. The center is red an has a yellow line that cuts across the center. Three white stars are lined up.



JAPANESE WWII MILITARY MEDALS

The Japanese armed forces issued a series of medals to recognize the heroics and effort given by the soldiers in combat and under other circumstances. This section of the website provides a photographs and information about some of the medals that were issued during WWII. This information is important to the collector and enthusiast in order to learn more about WW2 antiques.



WWII Japanese China Incident War medal. - Issued in recognition of an incident at the Marco Polo bridge on July 7th of 1939. Multi-color ribbon with a decorative hanging device attached to a round medal.


WWII Japanese Order of the Rising Sun 7th Class medal. - Created on April 10th 1875. Awarded in recognition of general merit. The award is in the shape of a silver leaf. White ribbon with red stripes at each side.

WWII Japanese Order of the Rising Sun 8th Class medal. - Instituted on april 10th 1875. The award consists of a silver leaf attached to a white ribbon with red stripes at the edges. Complete with the issue box.


WWII Japanese 1904-1905 Russian medal. - instituted on March 31st 1906. Light blue ribbon with a dark blue stripe and white stripes runing down the sides. Issued in recognition of fighting the Russians.




WWII Japanese First National Census medal. - Consisting of a white ribbon with two large purple stripes runing down the sides. Round brass color medal with a wavy contour shows a man standing over a table.


Jaoanese Order of The Rising Sun 5th Class medal. - This is the document issued with the Order of the Rising Sun 5th Class medal. Rectangular shape with a decorative border. Multiple Japanese characters.


WWII Japanese Armed Forces Veteran Badge. - This is a metal shield with a gold star in the center. Crossed swords and an anchor are found as background.


WWII Japanese Commemorative War Worker Badge. - This is an oval award with an aircraft propellor at the top. Crossed cannons are placed just below with a shell in the lower section.




WWII Japanese Personal Valor badge. - This is a metal multi-sided award. silver in color. It features a group of Japanese soldiers crawling with a bangalore in front of a fence.


WWII Japanee Opinion medal. - Round silver award with a flower outline that shows Mount Fuji un the center. Japanese writting is found below the mount. The suspension system is very simple.


WWII Japanese General Opinion medal. - Round silver award with the front bearing two laurels. Japanese writting is placed in the center. The back has two Japanese characters. Suspension system is very simple.


WWII Japanese Veteran's Pin. - Consisting of a blue and white cloth rosette with a gold metal shield in the center. Enclosed in a wooden box with a separated lid that has Japanese characters written.




WWII Japanese Submarine badge - Of brown metal construction. The badge is in the shape of a flower and is of dark brown color. A fat submarine is attached to the center. The back has a heavy duty pin.


WWII Japanese Infantrye badge - Of brown metal construction. The badge is in the shape of a flower and is of dark brown color. A set of crossed rifles is attached to the center. The back has a heavy duty pin.


WWII Japanese Commander Badge - Of silver metal construction. The badge is in the shape of an oval with a wreath in the perimeter. A gold star is placed in the center.
