The Model 1871 sword consists of an integrated hand guard and cross guard attached together via the pommel and spine of the handle.
The crossguard opens into a semi-circle and is very ornate in the lower section. It is decorated with multiple sections of leafing
and anchor with flags to each side.
The grip is made of wood and has multiple crevices where wire wrapping would have been attached. the pommel ends in a section
adorned with multiple leaves.
The scabbard is of metal construction and has two suspension rings near the throat area. It has been painted black. The tip is
equipped with a drag to provide protection agains the ground.
The blade measures approximately 35 inches in length, It has an engraved inscription that reads the dates 1871 and 1816.
