The 1907 bayonet was the standard bayonet for the British and commomwealth military forces. The length of the bayonet is around
22 inches. The handle is made of wood and is held together via the use of two rivets. The pommel is metal and has the release
button.
The blade is single edge. It has a blood groove that covers almost the entire length. The base of the blade will have a series of
markings. They may include the model number, country, strength mark and proof marks.
The scabbard is not shown in this example. However, it is made of leather with a metal tip and throat. A separate piece is attached
so that the leather frog can be held to the bayonet.
The edge weapons from many countries are currently being
reproduced.
It is becoming more difficult to be able to tell the fake ones from the real ones because
the quality of the reproductions are improving. The collector must become familiarized with
the construction style and materials employed in the manufacturing of these medals.
Attention to the details is critical in order to be able to determine the authenticity of
the collectible.
