The compass featured here was standard for the Australian army during WWII. The design consists of a round shape container which
has a hinges lid. The center of the lid has a clear glass insert with a single black straight line. when the lid is closed it can
belocked into place by a top latch.
The upper section has a brass lanyard loop. This was one way in which the compass could be carried. The phase of the compass has
a graduated white circle. The center is black in color and holds the magnetic pointer.
The compass housing is of study construction. It has been tared to provide protection against the elements. The back of the body
shows a date of 1941.
The edge weapons from many countries are currently being
reproduced.
It is becoming more difficult to be able to tell the fake ones from the real ones because
the quality of the reproductions are improving. The collector must become familiarized with
the construction style and materials employed in the manufacturing of these medals.
Attention to the details is critical in order to be able to determine the authenticity of
the collectible.
