The armies of the different European countries employed bayonets that were of similar design. The idea at the time was to make
the weapon fairly long in an effort to keep the distance from the enemy. The bayonet measures approximately 21 inches.
The handle is made of wood and is secured via the use of two rivets. The pommel itself is made of metal. The release button is
found on one side of the pommel. The quillon is curved abnd ends in a ball. The opposite side of the crossguard sports the
muzzle ring.
The scabbard is not present in this example. The blade is single edge and has a blood groove that extends nearly its entire length.
The edge weapons from many countries are currently being
reproduced.
It is becoming more difficult to be able to tell the fake ones from the real ones because
the quality of the reproductions are improving. The collector must become familiarized with
the construction style and materials employed in the manufacturing of these medals.
Attention to the details is critical in order to be able to determine the authenticity of
the collectible.
