This is a French WWII helmet. As issued to the Army. Of steel construction. One of the interesting characteristics of the helmet
is the presence of a metal comb on the top. Two holes are cut in the front to secure an insignia, which is missing from this
example.
A leather chin strap is present.
The liner is composed of a series of leather fingers which point to the crown. The fingers are tied together by a shoe string.
The entire liner structure is attached to a ring which is riveted to the body in several places.
The side of the liner has been stamped in black ink with the number 59. This is the size of the helmet.
The helmets from many countries are currently being
reproduced.
It is becoming more difficult to be able to tell the fake ones from the real ones because
the quality of the reproductions are improving. The collector must become familiarized with
the construction style and materials employed in the manufacturing of these medals.
Attention to the details is critical in order to be able to determine the authenticity of
the collectible.
