This is a military sword used in the late 1800's by the French army. The handle is made of wood. It appears that at one point
wire was wrapped around the spiriling of the grip. None of it is left. The pommel connects to the cross guard via the hand
guard. Brass in color.
The face of one side of the cross guard is highly decorated with flower patterns. The scabbard is of metal construction and is
painted black. A single suspension ring is found near the throat.
The blade is of single edge design. Text has been inscribed in a section of the spine of the blade. An additional shield stamp
mark is found at the base of the blade.
