WWII GERMAN SS ARMBANDS
The SS was formed in 1925 as a personal protection guard unit for Adolf Hitler. Under the leadership of Heinrich
Himmler between 1929 and 1945, the SS grew from a small paramilitary formation to one of the largest and most
powerful organizations in the Third Reich.
The SS grew from a small paramilitary unit to a powerful force that served as the Fhrer's "Praetorian Guard", the
Nazi Party's "Protection Squadron" and a force that, fielding almost a million men (both on the front lines and as
political police), managed to exert as much political influence in the Third Reich as the Wehrmacht which were

WWII GERMAN CIVIL DEFENSE ARMBANDS
Civil defense, civil defence or civil protection is an effort to protect the citizens of a state, generally
non-combatants, from military attack. It uses the principles of emergency operations: prevention, mitigation,
preparation, response, or emergency evacuation, and recovery. Programmes of this sort were initially discussed at
least as early as the 1920s and were implemented in many countries.
Germany had a series of civil defense forces. They were in charge of fighting fires, clearing debris, making sure
transportation ran smoothly and other similar tasks.

WWII GERMAN RED CROSS ARMBANDS
The German Red Cross, Deutsches Rotes Kreuz, or the DRK, is the national Red Cross Society in Germany.
Instituted in 1864 by Dr. Aaron Silverman of the Charit hospital of Berlin, the German Red Cross was a voluntary
civil assistance organization that was officially acknowledged by the Geneva Convention in 1929.
Following Hitler's takeover of the government in Germany in 1933, the National Socialist Party moved to control
the Red Cross as well. Thus the DRK became a legally recognized organization of the NSDAP in December 1937.
Finally, at the end of 1938 the German Red Cross officially came under the control of the Nazi Party under the
Ministry of the Interior's Social Welfare Organization, becoming de facto a Nazi entity.

WWII GERMAN RAILROAD ARMBANDS
The Deutsche Reichsbahn, "German Imperial Railway", was the name of the German national railway created from the
railways of the individual states of the German Empire following the end of World War I.
It was founded in 1920 as the Deutsche Reichseisenbahnen when the Weimar Republic, formally Deutsches Reich
("German Empire" hence the usage of "Reich" in the name of the railway), took national control of the German
railways, which had previously been run by the German states.
