WWII GERMAN 12 YEAR MILITARY SERVICE MEDAL -
At the outset of the war, the Luftwaffe was one of the most modern, powerful, and experienced air forces in the world, dominating the skies over Europe with aircraft much more advanced than their foreign counterparts. The Luftwaffe was central to the German Blitzkrieg doctrine, as the close air support provided by various medium two-engine bombers, Stuka dive bombers and an overwhelming force of tactical fighters were key to several early successes.

Service in the military forces was highly recognized during the Third reich. Different types of medals were created to acknowledge the number of years of service rendered by a soldier.

The item featured here is a German medal issued to personnel who had served 12 years in the military. The design of the medal consists of a dark blue ribbon with a small, metal Luftwaffe eagle attached to it. the front of the medal has the words "Treue Dienste in der Wehrmarcht" scrolled along the perimeter. A German eagle is placed in the center. With retracted wings and clutching a swastika.
