THE GERMAN CIVILIAN AND POLICE BADGES OF WWII - The Third Reich depended heavily on the civilian population. The government created and issued a series of awards to be given to individuals who excelled in areas that were deemed critical to the success of Nazi Germany.

The effort could be focused on the military area or in the civilian world. Special emphasis was given to advancements in technology.

The police force was very important as well. It was used very effectivelly as a means to stamping out disent and keeping tabs on the population in general.

WWII GERMAN CIVILIAN, ORGANIZATIONAL AWARDS AND PINS

WWII GERMAN LEHR BADGE This is an oval badge. Silver color. Issued by the DLRG organization. Lehrschein written on top with an eagle facing left.


WWII GERMAN 2ND CLASS FIRE BRIGADE CROSS - The medal was issued to recognize fire figthers for the execution of their duties. There were approximately 100,000 of these medals awarded.


WWII GERMAN FAITHFUL SERVICE SILVER MEDAL - The medal was issued to individuals who completed 25 years of service for the state. This is the Silver class medal.


WWII GERMAN WEST WALL MEDAL - Of oval shape. The design consists of a crossed shovel and sword with an eagle on top. The medal was issued to individuals who constructed defenses.




WWII GERMAN SOCIAL WELFARE MEDAL - the ribbon is red in color. It has two white stripes runing on each side. It attaches to a suspension ring. Medal is silver and bears a cross on one side.

WWII GERMAN SPORTS BADGE - bronze style. The design of the badge consists of a wreath with a swastika at the bottom. The letters DRL are written in gothic font and placed at the center.

WWII GERMAN RLB MEMBERSHP PIN - The pin is of metal construction. It depicts the RLB eagle clutching a swastika. The back has a broken pin and the markings Ges Gesch.


WWII GERMAN LUFTSCHUTZ MERIT MEDAL - The Luftschutz was the civil defense force. This medal was issued to members who showed great skill in their position in the air defense.




WWII GERMAN EAGLE ORDER MEDAL - This is a very interesting medal. Silver circle with the Maltese cross in the center. An eagle atop a Swastika is found in every quadrant. The back reads "Deutsche Verdienst medaille".


WWII GERMAN TODT BADGE FOR SCIENCE The Todt organization was dedicated to science and engineering. The badge shown here was issued to members of hte group.


1936 This is a SA Sports pin. Issued at a ski competition in 1940. Pin-back construction. manufactured by the B.H. Meyer company.


1936 GERMAN HITLER DANK BADGE The badge is of circular construction. Pin-back type. The front shows a profile of Hitler.




WWII GERMAN ANNIVERSARY BADGE The badge is of ename construction. Separate oakleaf with ribbon around it. Pin-back type.


1939 WWII GERMAN CIVILIAN SHOOTING BADGE The badge is of metal construction. Dated 1939. Pin-back type. Issued at civilian shooting competitions.


1940 WWII GERMAN CIVILIAN SHOOTING BADGE The badge is of metal construction. Dated 1940. Pin-back type. Issued at civilian shooting competitions.


1941 WWII GERMAN CIVILIAN SHOOTING BADGE The badge is of metal construction. Dated 1941. Pin-back type. Issued at civilian shooting competitions.




1941 WWII GERMAN 40 YEARS FAITHFUL SERVICE In the shape of a cross with a swastika in the center. Gold Class. Complete with the blue ribbon.




WWII GERMAN VETERAN PINS

The veteran organizations were a fairly strong presence during the Third Reich. The ranks of these institutions were formed primarily by veterans of WWI. The following are examples of some of the pins that were used by the organizations.




WWII GERMAN 25 YEAR VETERAN PIN The design consists of a silver oval wreath with a circle on top. The number 25 is displayed in the circle. A red shield with an Iron Cross is front center.


WWII GERMAN 25 YEAR VETERAN PIN The pin consists of a silver oval wreath with a shield front center that has a lighthouse on top of a swastika. The number 25 is displayed in the upper section.


WWII GERMAN VETERAN CONTRIBUTION PIN The pin consists of a silver oval wreath with a sword in the center. A swastika is found in front of the sword.



WWII GERMAN RAD (Reichsarbeitsdienst)

The RAD was an organization dedicated to public works. Formed on July 1934. Membership was mandatory for 2 years by all youth. Serice in the RAD was viewed as a stepping stone into the military. The routines and exercises practiced while being a member were similar to those practiced in the armed forces.




WWII GERMAN RAD BRONZE BADGE This is a bronze class RAD badge issued to female members. The front design reads "weibliche jugend reichsarbeitsdienst". Pin-back construction.


WWII GERMAN RAD SILVER BADGE This is a silver class RAD badge. Issued to members of the RAD. The front design consists of two wheat stocks with the Swastika above. Pin-back construction.


WWII GERMAN RAD LONG SERVICE MEDAL This is a long service medal issued for spending four years as a member of a RAD group. The back reads "For loyalty of service".


WWII GERMAN RAD LONG SERVICE SILVER MEDAL This is a Silver medal issued to RAD members for spending 12 years as a member of a unit. The front shows a shovel head with a wheat stock to each side.



MEMBERSHIP PINS OF THE THIRD REICH

Germany developed a large number of organizations under the Hitler regime. The ultimate goal of these groups was to keep a tight control of people and dissent. However, these groups also provided a wide array of services. Most of these organizations issued pins to indicate membership. this section of the website is dedicated to the study of such pins.

WWII GERMAN RED CROSS BADGE - 1 - This is a red cross membership pin. Of metal construction with an enameled front. A white circle is found in the center with a red cross. Pin-back construction.


WWII GERMAN NAZI PARTY MEMBERSHIP PIN - 2 - Thispin is of all metal construction. The words National Sozialistische DAP are written around the perimeter. Pin-back construction.


WWII GERMAN DVG MEMBERSHIP PIN - 3 - All metal construction. The design of the pin consists of a circle where a black outer ring is placed. A white circle with a red swastika is in the center.

WWII GERMAN MOTHER'S CROSS

Motherhood was highly regarded during the Third Reich. Hitler had an understanding that the only way to grow the Reich was to have enough people to carry the task. The Mother's Cross was instituted on 1938. It came in three different classes (Bronze, Silver and Gold), issued according to the number of kids the woman had.




WWII GERMAN BRONZE MOTHER'S CROSS In the shape of a cross with a sunburst in the center. The edges of the cross are painted bronze color. The award comes with a thin ribbon. Multi-colored.

WWII GERMAN MOTHER'S CROSS IN GOLD- This is the Gold type which was the entry level. Issued to mothers who had up to or above eight children. The ribbon is very thin. Blue in color with four white stripes runing down the sides.

WWII GERMAN MOTHER'S CROSS IN SILVER - This is the Silver type which was the entry level. Issued to mothers who had six children. The ribbon is very thin. Blue in color with four white stripes runing down the sides.

WWII GERMAN MOTHER'S CROSS IN GOLD - This is the Gold type which was the entry level. Issued to mothers who had eight children. The ribbon is very thin. Complete with issue box.



WWII GERMAN MOTHER'S CROSS - This is an example of a mother's cross that has been de-nazified. The front swastika has been removed.

WWII GERMAN MOTHER'S CROSS - This is the bronze version of the cross. Complete with the ribbon.

WWII GERMAN MOTHER'S CROSS - SILVER This is the Mother's Cross in silver. The example comes with the ribbon.

WWII GERMAN POLICE BADGES, AWARDS AND PINS

WWII GERMAN POLICE SUPPORTER PIN Of metal construction. Oval shape with an eagle in the center. Dated 1942, A metal pin is found in the back.


1942 WWII GERMAN POLICE SUPPORTER PIN This is a metal pin that was issued to individuals who contributed to the police department. Of oval shape. Metal construction. Pin-back type.


WWII GERMAN POLITICAL/STATE WORKER HAT EAGLE thsi is a hat eagle. of metal construction. Pin-back type. Used by government workers.


WWII GERMAN EARLY SA/SS HAT EAGLE This is a stamped metal hat eagle. Early design that was started in use by the SA. Then it was adopted for a short time by the SS.




WWII GERMAN POLICE SPORTS PATCH White background with a large police eagle embroidered in green. The sports patch was sewn to the sports T-shirts that were worn in competitions.


WWII GERMAN 25 YEARS OF SERVICE MEDAL The medal featured here was awarded to police officers who had completed 25 years of service in the force. Complete with the green fitted box.


WWII GERMAN POLICE HAT EAGLE Of aluminum construction. The design consists of a wreath with an eagle in the center. Prongs in the back allowed the emblem to be attached to a hat.


WWII GERMAN POLICE LONG SERVICE MEDAL This is a medal that was awarded to police officers who served 25 years of service. Complete with the ribbon and box whose cover has a wreath and number 25 printed on top.




WWII GERMAN POLICE SERVICE MEDAL This is a long service medal with a blue ribbon and metal eagle attached to it. The eagle is made by the Assmann company.


WWII GERMAN CUSTOMS SERVICE MEDAL This is a long service medal for the customs office. This was a branch of the police department so the awards were very similar in appearance.


WWII GERMAN POLICE SERVICE MEDAL 18 YEARS This is a long service medal. Awarded in recognition of 18 years of service. Instituted on January 30th 1938.
