WWII GERMAN PATCH - SR PETTY OFFICER -
This is a German rank patch. As used by the Kriegsmarine (Navy) during World War Two.
The petty officer badges were produced in two types; the regular petty officer and the Sr. petty officer. The
difference between the two was the chevron located below the anchor (as illustrated on this page).
The badge shown here was produced to be worn with the Dark-navy blue uniform. The same badge was also constructed with a yellow silk thread embroidered pattern. All badges were worn on the upper right arm.
The design consists of a metal oval backing plate. The front is covered with black wool
material
in the same shape. A metal anchor with a rope surrounding it and a metal "V" are secured to the front
via the use of long prongs. Both items are guilded.
The author is not aware of any reproductions
being made of this patch. It is possible that demand for the patch is not large enough to make it profitable.
This page is a recognition and identification guide for WWII German badges and awards. Multiple
detailed photos of a specific sample are provided. Descriptions point out clearly defined points
that should be noted.
One of the most commonly asked questions is "How much is my WWII German badge worth?". A price
guide is included here to address this question. The value of the badges and awards is reviewed
over a period of several years. A trend can be observed. The present worth of the German
badges in the collector's market is illustrated.
