This is an Italian carcano bayonet. As issued to armed forces during WWII. The handle is made of wood. The grips are secured via
the use of two rivets. The pommel is of metal construction and in the shape of a dove head.
The crossguard is very interesting. One side has the muzzle ring while the other tapers down into a ball. A serial nummber is
stamped on one side. The other has the manufacturer's name (ROCCA) and the date of 1942.
The body of the scabbard is made of black leather with the stitching on the back. The tip and throat are of brass construction.
The blade is of single edge type. A square blood groove extends nearly the length of the blade.
The edge weapons from many countries are currently being
reproduced.
It is becoming more difficult to be able to tell the fake ones from the real ones because
the quality of the reproductions are improving. The collector must become familiarized with
the construction style and materials employed in the manufacturing of these medals.
Attention to the details is critical in order to be able to determine the authenticity of
the collectible.
