GERMAN WWII CIVILIAN IN THE SERVICE OF THE ARMED FORCES ARMBAND
The Third Reich brought about the extensive used of armbands as part of the uniforms.
The armbands had a multitude of purposes. In some cases it indicated rank, in other
cases it denoted the type of job performed by the individual.
The armband featured here was issued to individuals who volunteered their time and
services to the armed forces in a non-combat role. They would perform tasks such as
driving supplies, distribute uniforms to the soldiers, etc. It was worn on the left
arm of the uniform.
This group of individuals formed a paramilitary
organization.
The armband is made of white cotton
material. Writting with black letters is placed
in one side and reads: IM DIENST DER DEUTSCHEN WEHRMACHT. which translates to
"In the service of the German armed forces". This is a very simple design.
