GERMAN WWI GOLD WOUND BADGE -
This is a German WWI wound medal in gold. The award was issued to individuals who had been
wounded in battle for five or more wounds.
The badge came in two other classes: Black and silver.
Of metal construction. oval shape with a wreath in the perimeter. The main body is pebbled. A german helmet
is placed in the center. Two crossed swords are placed behind the helmet. The back is flat but has a rim.
A vertical pin is soldered to the upper portion of the badge. A catch is placed in the opposite side to secure
the pin shut. Guilded. The pin was passed through loops that were sewn to the breast area of the jacket.
The same design was used in WWII except that a swastika was added in the center of the helmet.
