WWII US Navy AL-1 Flight Suit -
When the United States entered World War Two much of the military was unprepared for combat.
The unforms and equipment employed was very antiquated, most of it dated back to World War one.
Advancements in the field of aviation require that the US Army Air Force develop a new line of
uniforms known as flight suits. The one featured here is designed for winter wear.
It was manufactured of a
cotton and pyle material and they were
green in color.
The design of the AL-1 Navy flight suit consisted on a very heavy duty coverall. The exterior
was made of waterproof material. The inside was lines with a thick coat of pyle. A silver
zipper closes the front section. An additional, smaller zipper, is placed in each leg.
Two pockets are found in the breast area. They are secured shut by using a flap with a green
color metal snap.
The American flight suits may have been adorned with a variety of
patches. In addition, some
insignia may have been added.
The patches were normally placed in the left and right arms. In some occassions they may be
located in the breast area.

Most of the American uniforms of the WWII era are relatively common. The uniform featured here is not
very hard to find. In general the appreciation has been moderate. Recently the value has
began to come up some. It is expected that this trend will continue, specially as the pieces become
harder to find.
