IMPERIAL GERMAN ARMY ARTILLERY OFFICER SWORD
This is an Imperial German Army Lion Head sword. Complete with the knot and hanger leather device. As issued to
officers during WWI. The design of the sword consists of a beautiful executed handle. Gold color spine and
pommel in the shape of a lion head with red ruby eyes. The stones are not actual rubies but they look like
it. The spine turns from the meime of the lion into heavy leafing with acorns placed in different places.
The handle is made of black bakelite. It is nicely wire wrapped. The example shown here remains tightly
wrapped. The crossguard ends in a smaller lion head facing down. Each side of the crossguard has a lip that
covers the throat of the scabbard. The front lip has a design of crossed cannons. This is an indication that the
sword belonged to an artillery unit.
