WWII GERMAN FIRE FIGHTER HAT - Early Verison

This is a German WWII hat. As issued to members of the fire department. Like many other civil organizations, the fire department was affiliated to the Nazi party.

The design of the hat consists of a dark blue wool body. With a black mid-section. Black leather visor and chin strap. Pink piping is applied to most of the perimeter.







The front of the hat has a standard services/political eagle. Of bronze finish. The design consists of an eagle with the wings fully spread. The plumeage consists of three rows. The head is facing to the left. The talons are clutching a wreath with a swastika in the center. Some pebbling can be found around the swastika.

A close up view of the front device is shown in the photo above. In the shape of a button with a couple of ribbed silver circles ending in a red section. The edges of the button are black and star patterned.

The inside of the hat is all brown. A leather sweat band is present. It shows normal wear.





The inside of the hat has a white stamped eagle (imoerial type) with some writting below it. This is an earlier mark. No RZM paper tag is present because the RZM organization had not yet come into existance when this hat was produced.

A couple of ink markings are also found. It is not possible to tell if they were placed there during the war or later.

The leather chin strap is helt to the hat via the use of silver metal buttons that have the letter "F" written on the face in gothic style.

The inside of the visor is of brown color and displays the typical checkered pattern that was applied to many of the dress hats of the Third Reich.



This hat is currently being reproduced. It is becoming more difficult to be able to tell the fake ones from the real ones because the quality of the reproductions is improving. The collector must become familiarized with the construction style and materials employed in the manufacturing of this hat. Attention to the details is critical in order to be able to determine the authenticity of the headgear.
